Why should you have your rug professionally cleaned?

Rugs collect dust, allergens, bacteria, and stains that are not visible on the surface but affect indoor air quality and rug durability. Vacuuming removes surface dirt, but deeply embedded dirt in the fibers requires professional cleaning.
A rug cleaned at home often remains damp for too long, causing mold problems and unpleasant odors. In a professional cleaning facility, the rug dries evenly under controlled conditions, eliminating the risk of moisture damage.
Regular professional cleaning significantly extends the lifespan of your rug. An authentic Oriental rug can last for decades when properly cared for – and professional cleaning is the most important part of proper maintenance.

When should you have your rug cleaned?

  • The rug has been in use for over a year without cleaning
  • The rug has visible stains or color changes
  • The rug smells or feels musty
  • There are allergy sufferers or small children in the household
  • Liquids or food have been spilled on the rug
  • A pet has soiled the rug

Five cleaning methods – we choose the best for your rug

Method 1: Flat Cleaning

The rug is laid flat and cleaned by hand or mechanically with a diluted cleaning solution. Suitable for most machine-made rugs, cotton rugs, and thin rugs. An effective and gentle combination.

Method 2: Machine Washing

Machine washing is used for durable rugs, such as rag rugs and cotton rugs, that can withstand mechanical handling. An effective way to remove stubborn dirt from durable materials.

Method 3: Chemical Cleaning

For the most delicate rugs, such as authentic silk rugs and valuable hand-knotted rugs. Chemical cleaning does not expose the rug to water, minimizing the risk of shrinkage and color bleeding.

Method 4: Emulsion Cleaning

Combines the benefits of chemical cleaning and water washing. Suitable for rugs with both oil-based and water-based stains that can withstand light moisture treatment.

Method 5: Foam Cleaning

A gentle method where foam cleans the rug without excessive moisture. Suitable for rugs that are sensitive to water but can withstand light treatment.

What types of rugs do we clean?

Authentic Oriental rug cleaning – our specialty

An authentic Oriental rug is an investment that can last from generation to generation. Hand-knotted rugs made of wool and silk are beautiful, durable, and naturally dirt-repellent – but they require proper care.

Cleaning authentic rugs is one of the most demanding tasks in rug cleaning. The colors are often dyed with natural dyes that can react to an incorrectly chosen cleaning method. The materials – especially silk – are delicate and require extreme care.
At Superpesula, we clean authentic rugs gently and carefully. Our cleaners have decades of experience handling authentic Oriental rugs, and we guarantee proper treatment for every rug.

Silk rug
€30.90 / m²

Note to valuable rug owners:

A hand-knotted authentic rug is an investment you can enjoy for decades, as long as you care for it properly. We recommend professional cleaning every 2–4 years under normal use, and more frequently if the rug is in a high-traffic area.
Due to their durability and dirt-repellent properties, authentic rugs are also excellent for office and meeting spaces. If you need rug cleaning for your business, see our corporate services →.

Wool and pile rug cleaning

Cozy and atmospheric wool and pile rugs are Finnish favorites. They stay clean-looking for a long time, as long as small accidents are wiped up immediately – but deeply embedded dirt in the fibers requires professional cleaning.
Thick pile collects dust and allergens that regular vacuuming cannot reach. Professional cleaning cleans the rug fibers deeply and restores the pile’s original airiness and softness.
We clean every rug carefully according to the care instructions. If instructions are missing, we clean the rug professionally according to material standards.

Rag rug and cotton rug cleaning

Whether your beloved rag rug comes from the hallway, grandmother’s cottage, or the summer cabin porch – it deserves professional cleaning. Taking it to a cleaning facility is also better for the environment: at Superpesula, rugs are cleaned more ecologically and in a way that protects our waterways.
Rag rugs and cotton rugs are cleaned either by machine or flat washing, depending on the material and condition. Machine washing is suitable for durable rag rugs, while flat washing is a gentler method for thinner and more delicate rugs.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a rug be cleaned?

Under normal use, a rug should be cleaned every 1–3 years depending on its location. Hallway and living room rugs get dirty faster than bedroom rugs. For households with allergy sufferers, we recommend annual cleaning. Authentic Oriental rugs can go 2–4 years between cleanings.
Rug cleaning typically takes 3–8 business days depending on the rug type and cleaning method. Possible transport days are added to this. We always provide an estimated completion time when receiving the rug.
In professional cleaning, the risk of shrinkage is minimal because we always choose the cleaning method according to the rug’s material and structure. The most delicate rugs (silk, authentic) are cleaned chemically or by foam cleaning, which prevents shrinkage.
Cleaning can significantly brighten colors because deeply embedded dirt dulls the rug’s original colors. However, cleaning does not repair actual color damage (e.g., caused by sunlight). By bringing the rug to us, we can immediately see whether it is dirt or color damage.
Yes. Professional cleaning effectively removes most odors. For particularly strong odors (pet, mold, tobacco), we recommend ozonation during cleaning (odor removal €4/m²), which removes odors from the rug’s structure.
The minimum area is 1 m² per rug. Smaller rugs can also be cleaned, but they are billed at 1 m².
No. The cleaning method is chosen for each rug based on its structure, material, and condition. A silk rug is cleaned very differently from a rag rug. That is why professional cleaning is safer than home cleaning.
